Settings

The settings screen keeps your preferences on the device: they apply every time you open Puntotek.

The settings, one by one

Graphic design mode in Puntotek
Font design mode in Puntotek

Working mode

The big switch of Puntotek: it decides what you are designing. It asks for confirmation before switching, because the main screen starts working on something else.

  • Graphic design: The usual one: you stitch on fabric, with its aida and its size.
  • Font design: The typeface workshop: the fabric becomes the glyph grid and the three limit buttons appear.

Touch mode in Puntotek

Device type

Fits the interface to how you work. It is not only looks: it changes the size of some controls and turns on things that only make sense with a keyboard.

  • Computer: Smaller close icons and keyboard shortcut reminders.
  • Touch: Everything sized for a finger, with no shortcuts you could not press anyway.
Large ruler numbers in Puntotek
Medium ruler numbers in Puntotek
Small ruler numbers in Puntotek

Ruler numbers

The size of the numbers Puntotek leaves around the grid so you know where you are. The smaller they are, the closer together they can sit without piling up — and on works of hundreds of stitches that is welcome.

  • Large: Readable from a distance. Good for small works and big screens.
  • Medium: The middle ground, and the one that works for almost everything.
  • Small: For huge works: they appear more often without covering each other.
Ruler numbers with a fast fade in Puntotek
Ruler numbers with a medium fade in Puntotek
Ruler numbers with a slow fade in Puntotek

Number fade

How long the numbers stay on screen before fading away. It is a matter of taste: some prefer a clean grid, others like the reference always in sight.

  • 1 second: One glance and they are gone. The clearest screen.
  • 3 seconds: Just enough to look twice.
  • 5 seconds: They stay a good while. Handy while you learn to find your way around the work.
Ten undo steps in Puntotek
Twenty undo steps in Puntotek
Thirty undo steps in Puntotek

Undo steps

How many steps back the history keeps. More steps means more room to change your mind, but also more space taken on the device: each step is saved whole.

  • 10 steps: The starting value. Enough for ordinary touching up.
  • 20 steps: The middle one, if you tend to try things before making up your mind.
  • 30 steps: The maximum, for when you really experiment.
  • Warning: Changing this value resets the current history: the work itself is untouched, but whatever you had done up to that point can no longer be undone.
Key reminders on in Puntotek
Key reminders off in Puntotek

Key reminders

In computer mode, when you press a button that has a keyboard shortcut a little card pops up to remind you (CTRL + Z, ALT + S, P, L…). You get 50 per session and then they go quiet on their own: the idea is that you learn the shortcuts, not that they nag you.

  • On: The cards appear while you have reminders left for the session.
  • Off: Complete silence. The shortcuts keep working just the same.
The Puntotek command console

The command console

The text field at the bottom takes typed commands (ENTER or its button to run them). They are typed in Spanish, so here they are with what each one does: AYUDA lists the commands, INFO shows the state of the program, LISTA ARCHIVOS lists your files, BORRA name deletes one, CLS clears the screen and BORRA REGISTROS ⚠ wipes everything saved (only use it if you know what you are doing).

No butterflies in Puntotek
A few butterflies in Puntotek
Quite a few butterflies in Puntotek
Plenty of butterflies in Puntotek

The butterflies

The butterflies fluttering across the screen while you stitch. They are decoration, they do nothing to the work, and this button decides how many there are: none, a few, quite a few or plenty. If the screen distracts you or the device is struggling, leave them at zero and that is that.

Unlinking the device from the account in Puntotek

Unlink this device

Releases this device from your Puntotek account. It asks first, and the notice is worth reading because most people imagine it worse than it is.

  • Your local works are kept: Whatever is saved on the device stays where it was. What is cut is the link to the account, not your files.
  • You can link it again: With this account or another one. That is exactly what it is for: lending the tablet, switching accounts or clearing a device you will not use any more.
  • What you do lose sight of: While it is unlinked, the tabs for your cloud and your licences stay switched off.
Closing the settings in Puntotek
Help in Puntotek

Close / Help

Two simple buttons: leave the settings, or open this help page when you need a reminder of a setting.

  • Close the settings: Goes back to the canvas keeping whatever you changed.
  • Open help: Opens the explanation of the current screen.

Tips

  • The settings are saved on this device. If you stitch on the computer and on the tablet, you will have to set them to your taste on each one.
  • If you are about to start a big work, raise the undo steps first: changing them halfway through wipes the history you had.
  • Ruler numbers getting in the way? Before removing them, try the small size with the 1 second fade: they show when you need them and vanish straight after.
