Puntotek manual: creating cross stitch patterns

Welcome to the Puntotek manual, the application for designing cross stitch patterns. Every screen is explained here, button by button, with a picture of each one so you recognise them at a glance.

You do not need to read it all, or in order. Inside Puntotek, every menu has its own help button and it brings you straight to the chapter you were using. If you are starting out, follow the order below: it goes from installing the application to printing the finished pattern.

Getting started

  • Install Puntotek — how to get it on your phone, tablet or computer, without going through any app store.
  • The main screen — the canvas, the menu bar and the information point. If you only read one chapter, make it this one.
  • The fabric — the loom and the background colour: width, height, aida and how big the finished piece will be.

Drawing the pattern

The four menus you use every day: what you draw with, which stitch, which colour, and how to repeat what you have already made.

  • The drawing menu — freehand pencil, line, box, ellipse, fill and the two outlining tools.
  • The stitches — full cross, half stitches, backstitch, eraser and simulated view.
  • The cross stitch colour charts — the active colour and the palette: add DMC or Finca threads, merge similar tones and count the stitches of each colour.
  • Copy, paste and motifs — repeat borders, rotate or mirror an area and save it to reuse in other works.

Your files

  • The general tools menu — saving and opening, the loom and the fabric colour, the cloud, exporting and the rest of the general tools.
  • The file list — your works, your motifs, the Puntotek Collection and your cloud folder, all in the same window.

From a photo to a pattern

The importer turns an image into stitches, in three steps. Worth reading them one after another the first time: each one sets up the next.

Letters and fonts

  • The text editor — write a name or a phrase and paste it into the pattern like any other motif.
  • The font design mode — draw your own letters, glyph by glyph, to use later in your texts.

Finishing and settings

  • Printing and exporting to PDF — the pattern on paper, with symbols, counts and the colour key ready to stitch.
  • Settings — rulers, fading, undo steps, warnings and the switch to font mode.

Cannot find something?

Write to info@puntotek.com and we will look into it. A good part of what this manual explains today came from questions asked by people using Puntotek, so asking helps everyone else too.

And if you fancy seeing what other stitchers are up to, drop by the gallery or the Puntotek Collection, with patterns ready to open in the application.
