Install Puntotek on your phone, tablet or computer

Install Puntotek 3 on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad (PWA)

Puntotek, the application for designing cross stitch patterns, installs as a progressive web app (PWA). That means you do not have to look for it in any store: you open it in the browser, install it on your device, and from then on it runs from its own icon, in a clean full-screen window.

Installing is optional, but well worth it if you are going to use Puntotek often: you gain screen space, quick access from the desktop or the home screen, and the application can still start even when the connection is not perfect.

Important: each installation belongs to the browser and the user profile it was opened from. If you install Puntotek on Windows under one user and then log in as another, or if you sometimes open it with Chrome and sometimes with Edge, Puntotek may see them as separate installations, as if they were different machines. That is why works can seem to be “missing”: they are usually in the other installation, the other browser or the other user. To avoid confusion, always use the same user and the same browser, and sign in so your works are saved to and restored from the cloud. And for the same reason, a linked account does not travel from one browser to another: opening Puntotek in a different one will ask you to connect it again.

The easy way: open puntotek.com/app and, if Puntotek asks whether you want to install it, tap Yes. If no prompt appears, follow the instructions for your system.

On a computer: Windows, Mac or Linux

On the desktop, installing works best with Chrome or Edge.

  1. Open puntotek.com/app.
  2. Look at the address bar. If the install icon appears, click it.
  3. If you cannot see the icon, open the browser menu, top right, and look for Install Puntotek, Install app or Save and install.
  4. Confirm the installation. Puntotek will show up like any other application: in the Windows Start menu, in the Mac Launchpad or in your Linux app launcher.

Desktop Firefox lets you use Puntotek in a tab, but it does not install PWAs the same way. If you want your own icon and a separate window, use Chrome or Edge to install it.

On Android: phone or tablet

  1. Open puntotek.com/app with Chrome.
  2. Accept the install prompt when it appears.
  3. If it does not appear, open the browser menu and choose Add to home screen or Install app.
  4. When it finishes, open Puntotek from its icon. It will look like an app, without the usual browser bar.

Android tablets are where installing makes the biggest difference: drawing, zooming and moving around the canvas become far more comfortable.

On iPhone and iPad

On iOS and iPadOS you install from Safari. Chrome on iPhone uses the Safari engine, but the option to add to the home screen is where Apple puts it: in the share button.

  1. Open puntotek.com/app with Safari.
  2. Tap Share, the square with the arrow pointing up.
  3. Choose Add to Home Screen.
  4. Confirm the name and tap Add.

From then on, Puntotek opens from its icon like any other app on your iPhone or iPad.

Important note on iPhone and iPad: install Puntotek from Safari and keep Safari as your default browser. The manual, your account and the inbox open in a new window, and that is handled by the system’s default browser: if it is Chrome, its own pop-up blocker can stop them from opening, even with Safari’s blocker turned off. It happened to us on a real iPad and setting Safari as default fixed it.

After installing

  • Open Puntotek from the new icon, not from the old browser tab.
  • Sign in if you want to store works in the cloud and get them back on other devices.
  • Go into Settings to adjust rulers, zoom, device and drawing behaviour.

Updates

You do not have to download anything by hand. When we publish a new version, Puntotek prepares it in the background. If the update is ready, the app may ask whether you want to load it now; if you would rather carry on working, it will be applied next time you open it.

If you notice that something new is not there, close every Puntotek window and open it again. On some devices it helps to open it twice: once to download the new version and once to start with it.

If something goes wrong

  • The install option does not appear: check that you are using Chrome, Edge or Safari, and that you are not in incognito or private browsing.
  • It opens inside the browser: you are probably using a bookmark or the tab, not the installed icon. Look for the Puntotek icon on your desktop, start menu or home screen.
  • The app looks out of date: close it completely and open it again. If it is still the same, also open puntotek.com/app in the browser to force the check.
  • You want to uninstall: do it like any other application. On mobile, press and hold the icon; on the desktop, use the app menu or the system options. Works saved in the cloud are not lost.
