The raw import. Esencia de Alabama exactly as the importer left it, 200 x 200 stitches in 35 colours, published unfinished on purpose so you can watch a pattern being made.
This is the starting point, not the destination. An imported image is not a pattern yet: it carries colours nobody will tell apart on fabric, stitches stranded alone in the middle of a field, and outlines the converter guessed at rather than drew. The dome and its flag, the paddle steamer, the magnolias and the Spanish moss are all here, but the way a photograph is here, not the way a chart is.
From now on the work is subtraction. Colours come down until every thread left has a job. Shapes are redrawn by hand so an edge reads as an edge. Lone stitches go, because each one is a whole needle journey for a single point.
When it is finished it moves to the Puntotek Collection, free to open and to change. That is why this one can be seen but not opened: it is not done yet. Come back and compare.
The numbers
Size by fabric count
| Count | Stitches/cm | The design | In inches | Fabric to buy * |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11 ct | 4.3 | 46.2 x 46.2 cm | 18.2 x 18.2 in | 62 x 62 cm |
| 14 ct | 5.5 | 36.3 x 36.3 cm | 14.3 x 14.3 in | 52 x 52 cm |
| 16 ct | 6.3 | 31.8 x 31.8 cm | 12.5 x 12.5 in | 48 x 48 cm |
| 18 ct | 7.1 | 28.2 x 28.2 cm | 11.1 x 11.1 in | 44 x 44 cm |
| 20 ct | 7.9 | 25.4 x 25.4 cm | 10.0 x 10.0 in | 41 x 41 cm |
| 22 ct | 8.7 | 23.1 x 23.1 cm | 9.1 x 9.1 in | 39 x 39 cm |
* The fabric to buy allows 8 cm on each side for the hoop and the frame. The highlighted row is 14-count, the most common: the pattern has the same number of stitches on every fabric, what changes is how big each one is.
Suggested fabric: white.

What this one asks of you
All 31,991 stitches are full cross stitch: no half stitches and no backstitch to follow.
It has 2,860 lone stitches, 8.9 % of the total, and 1,870 of those have no neighbour of their color at all. The more there are, the more the needle jumps.
