Start a pattern on your phone while you wait, open it on the computer when you get home, finish it on the tablet from the sofa. Not three copies: the same design.
Anyone who designs cross stitch knows the old problem. The pattern lives on one particular computer, the one on the desk. To touch it, you have to sit there. And the moment you want to take it somewhere else the dance begins: a USB stick, an email to yourself, three files with the same name and no idea which one is the latest.
Puntotek is built the other way round, and this page explains exactly how.
The pattern doesn’t live on a machine: it lives in your account
That is the real change. In a program you install, the design is a file inside one machine, and everything else is copies that slowly go stale. Here the work is kept in your own personal cloud, and every device you open asks for it from there. There is no original and no copies: there is one pattern, and windows to look at it through.
Which means the phone isn’t a worse place to work — it is another screen onto the same desk. Save on one, open on the other, carry on where you were.
There is nothing to install, anywhere
Puntotek is a progressive web app, a PWA. In plain words: it is this very website, saved as an icon. Open it from that icon and it runs full screen, with no address bar and no tabs, like any other program.
From that follows the part people find hardest to believe: there is no Windows version, no Mac version and no Android version. There is one, the same for everybody, and it updates itself when you open it. You will never be stuck on a device running a two-year-old build, and you will never wait for an app store to approve anything.
- Computer, Windows or Mac, with Chrome or Edge: the install icon appears in the address bar.
- Android phone and tablet, with Chrome: three-dot menu, “Install app”.
- iPad and iPhone, with Safari: Share button, “Add to Home Screen”.
- And if you’d rather install nothing, install nothing: open the website and draw. It works just the same.
The step by step, with screenshots, is in installing Puntotek on your phone, tablet or computer. And if what holds you back is the healthy suspicion of downloading things from the internet, that question is answered in full in is Puntotek safe?: no executable is downloaded, no administrator permissions are asked for, and uninstalling is removing the icon.
Your personal cloud, included
Create an account and you get your own space in the Puntotek cloud. Not a shared drive, not a public folder: yours, with simple rules.
- Ten private works and five public ones to start with, at no cost.
- Everything is born private. An uploaded pattern is seen by nobody but you. If you want to show it in the gallery, you publish it yourself, work by work, whenever you feel like it — and you can hide it again at any point.
- It opens from any device you have connected to your account, with nothing to upload or download by hand.
- It outlives the hardware. Change phone, wipe the computer, drop the tablet: what you uploaded is still where you left it.
All of it is visible and managed from your account: saved works, the quota you have used, connected devices and the inbox. That is also where you disconnect a device you no longer use, or delete the whole account with everything in it if one day you want to leave.
How you move from one screen to another
Three steps, and the first one happens only once per device.
- Connect your account on that device. One button, and it stays linked; no typing a password every time.
- Save the work to the cloud when you leave it half done. It is an option in the file menu, next to saving on the device itself.
- Open it on the other one. The file list shows what you have in the cloud, with its thumbnail. One tap and you are in.
No magic syncing, nothing running in the background: you save when you want and open when you want. That is deliberate — a cross stitch pattern is hours of work, and we would rather you always knew which version you are touching.
Each screen is good at something different
Working across devices isn’t doing the same thing in different places. It is letting each one do what it does best:
- The computer, for whatever needs precision and room: turning a photo into a pattern, wrestling with the colour charts and getting the PDF out to print.
- The tablet, for drawing with your finger. Filling, outlining and fixing with your hand on the design is a different way of working, and for many people the better one.
- The phone, for odd moments and for stitching itself: checking the pattern with the needle in your hand, seeing which colour comes next, fixing a stitch that doesn’t sit right, showing it to somebody.
And because the app is the same everywhere, there are no features that “only exist in the desktop version”. What changes is the size of the screen, not what you can do.
It draws offline too
Once installed, Puntotek opens with no connection at all: on a train, out in the country, on a phone with no data. You can draw and save on the device as usual. The only part that needs a line is the cloud — uploading, downloading and the gallery — and the moment you have signal again you pick up where you left off.
What you need to start
A modern browser and little else: Chrome, Edge or Safari, on any computer, tablet or phone from the last few years. No system requirements to check, no hundreds of megabytes to download, no serial number. You can try Puntotek right now without an account, and create one later, when you want the cloud and want to work in more than one place.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Puntotek on my phone and my computer with the same account?
Yes. You connect the account once on each device and they all see the same cloud works. Connect the ones you use, and disconnect the ones you don’t from your account.
Do I have to install anything?
No. Puntotek runs in the browser as it is. Installing only adds the icon and the full screen, and it is done from the browser itself in a few seconds, with no executable to download.
How many patterns can I keep in the cloud?
Ten private and five public at no cost. Your account shows how many you have used at any time.
Can anyone see my patterns?
Not unless you decide so. Everything you upload is born private and only appears in the gallery when you publish it, work by work. You can make it private again whenever you want.
Does it work without internet?
Yes for drawing and saving on the device itself. The cloud and the gallery need a connection, as you would expect.
What happens if I change phone or wipe my computer?
Whatever you uploaded to the cloud is still there: connect the account on the new device and you have it. Anything saved only in the old device’s browser goes with it, so upload what you don’t want to lose.
Do I need an account to use it?
Not to draw. The account is for the cloud, for the gallery and for moving between devices.
