Korea on a single sheet: the red and blue circle from the South Korean flag, the taegeuk, set like a sun behind the mountains; a pine with twisting branches, a palace pavilion with its curved roof and painted woodwork, a stone pagoda and, to one side, the pink flowers of the mugunghwa. Underneath, KOREA between swirling blue clouds. It is 110 x 134 stitches in 11 colors, about 20 by 24 centimetres on 14-count.
The mugunghwa, the Rose of Sharon, is South Korea's national flower, and the painted woodwork on the pavilion has a name of its own, dancheong: the colourful decoration of Korean palaces and temples. That is where the most absorbing part of the pattern lies, in the eaves, with plenty of colour changes in a small space; the rest is large, clean patches. A very welcome gift for anyone who follows K-pop or Korean dramas.
