Messi chibi-style, the head taking up more than half the picture: brown hair swept back with strands flying loose, a trimmed beard, big eyes and half a smile. Below it a tiny body in a blue and red striped shirt, the number 10 in white on the chest and another on the shorts, one hand on his hip and the ball tucked under the other arm.
It is 84 x 172 stitches, about 15 by 31 centimetres on 14-count, and two thirds of the cells carry a stitch: the rest is fabric, since the figure is cut out with no background. There are fifteen threads and none of them takes charge — the most used, the black, stays under fifteen per cent — but where the work sits certainly does: the face and hair take up more than half the pattern, and that is where nearly all of its 1,234 isolated stitches gather, one stitch in eight, among the strands and the beard. The shirt is the opposite: straight stripes you can work top to bottom without thinking, and the ball is done in no time.
Whole crosses throughout, no halves and no backstitch.

Suggested fabric: white.
